How to install a wall mount range hood: Simple Procedure

A range hood may seem very bulky in size, but with an appropriate installing process, you can effortlessly mount this great range hood in your kitchen wall. So, just relax and keep reading this in-depth process. Let’s start..

Things needed

  1. A top-notch quality range hood with mounting equipment
  2. Marker and pencil
  3. Measuring tape
  4. Drill
  5. Jab saw
  6. Utility knife
  7. Extra fasteners

Step 01: Check the hood condition

This is an important step that many of us may overlook. In case your range hood is faulty and the issue is found after finishing the full mounting process, you have to dismount and reinstall a new mount again. It is also a time-consuming process too.

Therefore, you need to check the device thoroughly before placing it on its spot to find any hidden damage or any other problem. To do so, first, connect the range hood’s cord to an electric source and test that all the lights, buttons, and fans are functioning well.

Step 02: Measure and make a hole for the vent

Go near to the wall where you are going to mount your hood and use your ruler and pencil to draw a horizontal line. Also, draw a vertical line at the center of it. Make sure the lines are visible as you are going to install the hood flowing these lines.

Now, straight above the horizontal line, you need to cut a hole for the vent. Using the duct transition circular collar as a template, draw a circular line on the room’s roof. After that, use a jab saw to cut a hole in that position. There you go: your vent hole is ready.

Before dropping the duct line through the hole, you need to fix the chimney mounting bracket. Secure the frame using its screw or fasteners just below the vent hole. Al last, you go to the attic and insert a flexible duct line through the hole.

Step 03:  Attach the duct transition

The next thing you should do is to connect the duct transition with the range hood. You will find some screws that come with the product package. Also, make sure that you’ve attached the gasket on the duct transition face, which is headed towards the hood. It will provide a good seal.

To securely add the gasket on the duct transition, add it with the flange side down and insert four screws into the predrilled hole. Now, attach the duct transition to the hood and proceed to the next stage.

Step 04: Mounting measurement

This is the most crucial part as your accurate calculation won’t fall you into any installation-hassle. First, you need to figure out where you need to drill holes on the wall, and the backplate will be useful to locate the exact screw positioning.

So, take one or two screws and mount the backplate on the hood. Afterward, measure the length of the screw hole from the bottom of the hood using a measuring tape and transfer that pattern to the wall. At this moment, measure the plate’s horizontal distance and draw its center point on the wall using a pencil. Make sure that the dish is placed on the previously drawn pattern. Mark the plate’s holes while keeping the steel plate holding on the wall’s surface.

Step 05: Start mounting the range hood

In this step, install the backplate to the hood before mounting it to the wall. Make sure that you have attached all six screws properly. Now identify the main supporting stud and mark the fastener inserting holes. After that, insert screws using a drill machine on the previously marked places. Keep the screws a few inches out to tighten them up after mounting the hood.

It’s time to mount the range hood. So, secure the screws firmly after attaching the hood and backplate to its marked position. Drill and connect two or more holes along the stud and attach screws on these holes.

Carefully sneak the range hood’s power cord through the vent hole if your power outlet is located in your house’s attic.

Step 06: Attach duct line and chimney

This is the final stage of the process, and you need to do this step carefully. Slowly pull the duct line down and attach it to the duct transition adapter. Use some metal duct tape to fix the duct line with the hood. Make sure it has a good seal.

Now attach the chimney on top of the hood, but you have to remove the plastic coating before that. After removing the layer, slide one piece of chimney inside the other. Remember, you have to do it very carefully. To attach the chimney smoothly, set the bottom screw first, and after that, slide it to the top screws.

After fastening the four mounting screws, the chimney will fill the gap in a telescopic fashion. Finally, add the baffle filters one by one, and your range hood is ready to do its job.
